Some of our 6th-8th grade UGES band students had the opportunity to join students from Yorkville and Union Grove High School to play with the pep band at the high school girls basketball game on Tuesday, February 6.
Congratulations to our Boys Basketball A-Team on a fantastic game last night in the conference playoffs. They have advanced to the championship game which will take place tomorrow, Thursday, February 8 vs. the Yorkville Rams at 5:00 p.m. at Union Grove Elementary School in the large gym. All UGES fans in attendance are encouraged to wear red & white to show support for Coach Penzel and the boys.

Announcing another fun-filled spirit week presented by Student Council! UGES Students and Staff will be participating in Valentine Spirit Week starting next Monday, February 12 through Thursday, February 15.

6th-8th Grade Valentine Dance permission slips and entry fee of $3.00 are due in TWO DAYS (Wednesday, February 7) to the main office by 2:45 p.m. Please keep in mind that after 2:45 p.m. no permission slips or money will be accepted (including at the door the day of the dance). Extra permission slips are available in the main office. The dance will take place on Friday, February 9 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the 5th-8th grade cafeteria.
Only 4 days remaining to place your Earth Day t-shirt order. All orders and payment are due to Mrs. Bednarek or the main office this Friday, February 9th by 3:00 p.m. Students and staff will be wearing the t-shirts on Earth Day (Monday, April 22). Earth Day t-shirt order forms are available in the Daily Express Newsletter link on the UGES Website and in the main office.

The Teacher "Slime Fest" was a huge success. One by one, Mr. Cleven, Ms. Tenhagen, Ms. Passe (a last minute addition), Mr. Penzel and Mr. Sams had pink and green slime dumped all over them. UGES is proudly supporting "National Wear Red Day" to help raise awareness for cardiovascular disease. Ms. Passe's (Kindergarten), Ms. Bednarek's (5th), and Mr. Cleven' s (6th) grade classes "showing off" their red.

The Makerspace Room is now open for 5th-8th graders after school from 3:00-4:00 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays. Tomorrow, Friday, February 2 there will be a special open house after school from 3:00-4:00 p.m. for students to come check out all the fun things they can do. Hope to see you there!

The final results are in for the Pony Pride Ticket Challenge. Students were stopping by the main office yesterday by the bunches to drop their last minute tickets they earned into the buckets. Overall 2,716 tickets were turned in by students. That's a lot of great things happening around UGES over the past couple of weeks. Congratulations to Mr. Penzel, Ms. Tenhagen, Mr. Cleven and Mr. Sams. They will be the representatives at the Teacher "SlimeFest" tomorrow, February 2 at 2:10 p.m. in the large gym. Student Council has been working on a number of projects. The latest is putting together a greenhouse that they recently purchased for the school. Great job Student Council!
